*Originado de uma amizade escolar entre o baixista Mike Mills e o baterista Bill Berry, o R.E.M. moldou-se em sua formação original quando Michael Stipe e Peter Buck foram convidados para integrar a banda. Começando a tocar covers de Searchers e Sex Pistols no início dos anos 80, já no primeiro álbum, de 81, conseguiram alguma repercussão recebendo elogios da crítica. Seguiram a trajetória ascendente emplacando inúmeros sucessos e consolidando-se como uma das mais populares bandas de rock. Estiveram pela primeira vez apresentando-se no Brasil na 3ª versão do Rock In Rio.
